Jazz Boston -- Jazz Week Apr. 21-29, 2007

For those of you who love jazz...you need to check out this website: www.jazzboston.org. I went to an unbelievable concert tonight at the Berklee School of Music in Boston -- it was the kick off concert for Jazz Week, entitled "All-Star Jazz Blowout", featuring drummer Max Weinberg, Band Leader of NBC TV's "Late Night With Conan O'Brien," along with Phil Wilson directing the first-ever all-star band of faculty and students from Berklee, NEC, Harvard, MIT, Wellesley, Longy, and Brandeis. Also: New Orleans singer Henri Smith with reedman Nat Simpkins; and the concert will also mark the reunion of Your Neighborhood Saxophone Quartet with Allan Chase, Cercie Miller, Tom Hall, and Joel Springer.

There was another, not so well known artist there tonight -- Alisa Miles, Jazz Vocalist -- and I have to say she blew my socks off...what an AMAZING voice! I got goosebumps!! If she had a CD I would definitely buy it. I tried looking her up online, but there is really little information about her except that she graduated from Berkelee in 2002. There is an old outdated website, but really has no info on it....too bad...I really think she has what it takes to be a successful jazz singer. Two songs from her tonight were not nearly enough. She was amazing....If anyone has any additional info on her or if she has any recordings out there, please let me know.

Part of the proceeds from the show tonight will go to the Habitat for Humanity Musicians Village in New Orleans, and support the upcoming "Boston Women Build in the Bayou" trip to New Orleans this spring.
