Lorigan & Casey's Wedding

Lorigan and Casey were married on June 11, 2011. Despite the rain, the day was a beautiful one. Lorigan's smile lit the day up. She didn't let the rain get to her and we got some great shots under the umbrella. They were married in Lynn at St. Pius Church (beautiful church) and the reception was at Spinelli's in Lynnfield. Anyone looking for a great place to have a reception, definitely check out Spinelli's. Everything was wonderful...from the space, the staff to the food. All exceptional!

What a fabulous day for a wedding! Joe and Julie got married today up at the York Harbor Inn in York Maine. The sun was out and it was in the 50's...gorgeous....It was a group of about 60 people...man, do they know how to have fun! Joe even got up and played with the band. What a picture perfect day Nancy and Chris had for their wedding day! The brides were stunning, their son, Sam, was so adorable (and full of energy!) and the friends and family who surrounded them were all incredible. We had such a FUN photo shoot today with Kata, Charlie and Peanut (and the puppies Boni & Lumpi, too!). Peanut is due in October, so we had a chance to do some family preganancy photos. We got lots of great shots and had lots of laughs! The puppies liked the peanut butter on Peanut the best! : )

Senior Portrait Shoot at Castle Hill

We had a fabulous photo shoot yesterday with Kendra for her senior portraits at the Crane Estate, Castle Hill. One key thing to remember for any photographers wanting to shoot there, you need to get permission before shooting on the property.

There were so many wonderful spots to photograph Kendra, not to mention she is so photogenic and the camera LOVED her! And she had some great outfits...simple is always best. We did do some "formal" pics with a red prom dress (which Kendra didn't want to do, but mom insisted). It was fun to see Kendra and her mom Heather interact....they were a riot. We ended up shooting for nearly 3 hours (we just couldn't stop despite the hot weather). We started at 9 am up by the main house and ended the shoot on the beach...the time just flew by. Once we were done, then Richard and I put the equipment away, changed into our suits and made our way to the beach to dive in the ocean and cool off! Man, did that feel great! I was so HOT!

Doggie Meet Up Groups

Another Sad Day... Ginger -- 1999 to 2009

We had another sad day today. Our Calico cat, Ginger, had to be put to sleep this morning. She had congestive heart failure and was close to death. For those of you who don't know Ginger, we referred to her as our M.I.A. kitty (missing in action), because she spent 90% of her time hiding under our bed. We adopted her 10 years ago as a kitten of a ferral cat litter from our old vet. I had gone to the vet with Amber for her checkup and came home with a new addition to our family. She was always very sweet, but very bashful. She rarely liked to be held...she would come to you on "her" terms. Usually, that was at night when we were going to bed, she would jump up on the bed and poke us with her paw to get her nightly scratch. Sometimes, she would put her paw on my nose while I had my eyes closed and she would scare the bejesus out of me! And boy, did she have a loud purr! We will miss our MIA kitty.

She was having a hard time breathing last night and this morning and not acting herself (she didn't come up on the bed last night and she let me pick her up), so we brought her to the emergency veterinary hospital in Woburn and they confirmed she was in congestive heart failure. She was struggling to breathe (they put her in an oxygen crate to help her breathe a little easier), her nose and gums were blue, her temperature was low, they couldn't get a pulse in her rear legs and when they gave her a diuretic and she urinated, it was discolored showing her organs were shutting down. There were many tests we could have run, had her in the hospital for a few days, had her seen a cardiologist and put her on meds the rest of her life, but she would have 6 months at most, not to mention the thousands of dollars needed for all that...we consulted with the doctor who agreed it would be best to put her to sleep.

It was hard, especially seeing her in the oxygen tank and she seemed more spunky than she had been, but we knew it was the most humane thing we could do. We said our goodbyes, gave her lots of hugs, scratches and kisses and told her we loved her. We told her she would be seeing Amber, Mariah & Sam real soon and be running by the rainbow bridge. I held her head while she was given her "sleeping pill". May she rest in peace and enjoy being healthy again up in heaven running gleefully among the rolling hills with all the other beloved animals. We love you, baby and will always be near and dear to our hearts.

Richard and I wanted to take this opportunity to wish all of you and yours a wonderful holiday season and Happy New Year. Above is our holiday card with a few images from throughout the year. The background is a sunrise over Swampscott/Lynn/Nahant Beach this summer when we moved to Lynn. The ocean is such an important part of our lives and it brings us comfort and solice during times of reflection and times when we need to relax.

2008 has had a lot of twists and turns for us, but we have survived and are that much stronger for it! A great many thanks go to all of our friends, families and clients who have lent their support during this difficult year. We hope that 2009 will bring us all health, good fortune, happiness, love, laughter and much more time to do the things we love to do and more time to spend with those we love.

Day After Surgery

Muffin did really well with her surgery (spaying). She slept a lot when she came home last night, but she really good. Today, I noticed she was trying to lick her wound and was making it red, so we put a t-shirt on her to cover up her wound to deter her from licking it. Dr. Pino at NE Veterinary Clinic called me this morning to find out how Muffin was doing. She said if the redness doesn't go away by tomorrow morning to call back and she'll put her on some antibiotics just as a precaution. She's great. She really takes a genuine interest in her 4-legged patients. She just LOVES Muffin!

Surgery Day for Muffin

Today, Muffin got spayed. Just got word from the vet that she is doing really well and we're going to pick her up soon! Richard, Fred, Ginger, all her toys and I are awaiting her arrival back home. Please keep her in your prayers!

I'm sure she'll be up and around very soon and she looks forward to all the upcoming doggie "meetups" we've joined on http://www.meetup.com/. There are so many different large dog groups in the area...it's fabulous! Check it out!

Lesson Learned: Do Not Keep Anything In the Sink when the Dog is Alone!

After a being out a few hours running errands and going to an appointment, we came home to this. Guess she liked my pasta sauce (not to mention the plastic containers and a few other things that were chewed and on the floor!). How could you NOT laugh??! I mean, it's really our fault for leaving things in the kitchen she could get into.....LESSON LEARNED!

I was able to get most of the stain off of her mouth, but she's still a little orange on the beak! CHILDREN! LOL!!!

Got a great shot with my cell phone of our friend Elaine, her dog Willie, a colt named Comet and Muffin giving Comet a kiss! How cute! We visited our friends Stuart & Elaine in Plymouth for Thanksgiving. Stuart is one heck of a cook and made us a fabulous dinner! We enjoyed a nice fire in their fireplace and had some good vino! We had a bit of a scare when Willie got out and ran away, but they were able to finally round him up. We are so thankful Willie came back unharmed!

Lynn MA -- A City of Firsts

Lynn has so many interesting features and lots of culture. It is a real melting pot of people. We can walk down the street and see a Russian grocery store and then not far from that a Vietnamese restaurant or a Spanish market. It's really cool. We have been spending some time walking around its different parts and exploring.

This first image is the High Rock Tower, which is an observation tower. If you click on the link above, you can get some info on it.

Here is some history on Lynn, MA that I found on the Mass.info website (By the way, ironically enough, I found out that some of my relatives on my mom's side back in the 1800's first landed in Lynn! Guess I'm going back to my roots!).

"History: Settled in 1629, Lynn flourished as a plantation and site to early leather and iron industries. Shoemaking began in 1635 as a traditional hand craft, often done at home during the winter. In 1750, Welsh immigrant John Adam Dagyr introduced local shoemakers to improved techniques of making high quality women’s shoes. By the early 1800s, shoemaking had become a prosperous industry, supplying the nation through nearby maritime ports. Machinery introduced in the 1850’s ushered in the modern shoe factory, creating work opportunities that attracted labor from all over New England and later from Europe.

"In 1882, Elihu Thomson brought a thriving electrical business to Lynn. These included manufacturing industrial motors and arc lighting. His ground-breaking experiments with electricity led to the formation of General Electric with Thomas Edison in 1892. Shoemaking declined in the 1920s and 30s while General Electric expanded. During World War II the nation’s first jet engine was built under great secrecy at the Lynn plant. These fascinating stories and more are included in the Visitors Center exhibits."

Halloween with the Andrews Family

Richard, Muffin and I spent Halloween night with our friends Rebecca, James, Charlotte & Sam. We did some trick or treating and then we passed out goodies to at least 200 kids! It was crazy! Muffin had a great time as did all of us! Sam, who had had surgery on her finger the night before, acted like she was absolutely fine. What a trooper! We ended the night with Chinese food and then home to bed! It's great to spend time with friends.

We will be posting more images over the next few weeks as we get through all of the editing, processing, etc. Jessica, of GoochMedia will be working on the album and we hope to have a first cut to Nicole & Rob by the end of November. Lynn Woods, Bolton Spring Orchard & Nashoba Valley Winery -- all in one day!

Well, I'm sure you are not surprised by the title of this blog entry if you know us....you know the McGarry's don't let the grass grow under their feet (or paws!). Today we got up early (well, we always get up early), and we headed off to Lynn Woods for a hike with Muffin. We had great fun and saw some wonderful foliage.

Then in the afternoon, we headed out to Bolton, MA to join our friends Harvey & Sue and their friend Maggie for some apple picking at Bolton Spring farms.
Sue & Maggie got a jumpstart on us, but we got some apples picked, too...they also had a pumpkin patch, which we also explored. With all the walking and picking, we had worked up quite an appetite, so we went to the picnic area and got some apple dumplings, apple crisp, and cider. Sue, Harvey & Maggie also brought some some snacks from home. While we were sitting on the picnic bench, Muffin was getting lots of attention from the crowd that was there.

Then we headed over to Nashoba Valley Winery just up the street. There were tons of people plus there was a wedding going on. It was a beautiful fall day. We walked around the shop (the line for the wine tasting was WAY too long) and then we hung out at the picnic benches there and took in the amazing fall scenery.

On Saturday, September 27, 2008, Richard, Dan Powers and I had the privilege of photographing Rob & Nicole's wedding. Despite the rain, they had a wonderful day filled with lots of love, family and friends. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we felt right at home with the whole group. They had a beautiful ceremony at the Immaculate Conception church in Portsmouth, NH and then had their reception at Huddleston Hall on the UNH campus in Durham, NH. They really lucked out because the heavy rains only happened when they were inside the church or inside the reception hall.

We are having so much fun and learning so much with Muffin. We are getting more on a schedule and reading her signs better when she has to go out. She is loving her daily walks and romps on the beach. She also loves visiting her Aunty Rebecca and Charlotte & Sam. They had some quality time together yesterday while we were shooting a wedding in NH (pictures of that coming real soon, too!).

A New Bright Spot in Our Lives -- Muffin, the Sheepdog

It was sooner than we anticipated, but sometimes you can't plan these things....Muffin, the sheepdog, has joined our family. She is 4 months old and is a real sweetie. I think Amber must have been helping us connect with a puppy that would bring some joy into our lives after the devastation of losing Amber and all the other stress we have been through lately.
We got Muffin from MayFly Farm in Center Conway, NH. Richard Gertz is the breeder and was so nice to work with. We arrived yesterday morning about 8:30 am and when we knocked at the door, Muffin was in the kitchen jumping and barking, excited to see us. As soon as we went in the door, she smothered us with lots of kisses. She was just adorable. We spent some time with her and talking with Richard and then we had a chance to meet Muffin's mom and grandmom. They were both really nice and it was sweet the way Muffin's mom was playing with her. We got all our paperwork and new puppy instructions and then we were on our way to the big city. It would be a big adjustment for Muffin who is used to farm life.

She slept most of the way home...had a few accidents along the way, but, she's just a baby and I'm sure quite nervous leaving what she knew was home. Richard dropped me off at work and some of my co-workers at Webster had a chance to meet and greet her. Her butt was wagging and tinkled a little with excitement, but she was so good...she didn't jump or anything. She loved the attention. Richard headed home with her to get her settled in and to introduce her to the kitties. Of course the kitties were like "who is THIS?" LOL Fred hissed a bit and hid out...Ginger, well, she always hides. We had the gate up in the kitchen so they could at least see each other at a safe distance....you have to break them in slowly.

So according to Richard, the afternoon went well. He took her for a little walk but all she wanted to do was play with the leaves. Then the two of them took a nap for a bit and then last evening we all snuggled on the couch together watching TV. When it was time to go to bed, Muffin was gated in the kitchen with her bed, her toys and her water (and of course papers...JUST in case). She wimpered a little, but soon fell asleep and she slept the whole night. And no accidents! I took her out first thing this morning and she did #1 and then we went for a walk down by the beach (since we were all awake at 5:30 am). We met some other puppies and people and she seemed to have a great time. Came home, fed her, took her out to go #2 and then our day began by errands and then doing some more organizing of the apartment. Of course, she was right there to help! : ) She and Richard are napping now and we will soon continue on with our chores so we can finish before Rebecca and the girls come over for a visit.

Tomorrow Richard will be home with her in the morning while I have a 22 person family shoot in Hampton, NH that Mike Puiia is helping me with. Let's pray that the rain holds off until after noon time.....

Memories of Amber from Richard

I grieve for a lost friend, companion, loved one, and what I just realized, a spirit guide. She took up a lot of space, both physically and emotionally. She was never judgemental and was always there when I came home to greet me. She got us up in the morning and to bed at night.

She was always happy whenever she was next to us and always within eyesight to protect us from any harm. She always kept the cats in line, from keeping us from not getting enough sleep to washing their ears.

She was always the guard to our bedroom in letting the cats in or out. When she slept at night, I would catch her with her four paws up in the air and lying on her back, knowing she was in a warm, secure, loving environment. I would call this her night time flying mode.

There was always a puppy bounce in her, even when she was 10 1/2. When she ran on the beach, her ears would lift up like wings on a plane as she bounced along the beach.

As for the beach, I think it was also one of her favorite places to run because she would always squeak when we got near. She always would squeak when we visted old friends and the squeaking would always start about 3 or 4 blocks away from their homes.

She brought happiness into our lives and to anyone she came in contact with. She was the most loveable puppy dog I have ever known and she was never short on giving out kisses to anyone. Whenever we went for a walk in a crowd, she would have tons of admiring fans because she was so beautiful and friendly.

She had her routines and always herded us to the cookie jar after an evening walk or after every outting we would go on. She would also herd us up to bed. I think it was just for another treat which we would always give her freely.

Ten and a half years can be a long time in dog years (73 or 74 years) but it seems like only a very short time to us. In all that time, I believe she had a full life. She was always at our sides, and I will sorely miss her daily companionship. I loved her deeply. I cannot begin to tell you about all the adventures we have had together.

A Tribute to Amber, Our Sheepdog -- 1998-2008

Life has been challenging for us the last 6 months, however, things got just a little worse yesterday. Last night around 1:30 am our beloved sheepdog, Amber, 10 1/2 years old, died in Richard's arms of either a massive stroke or heart attack. We are devastated and heart broken to say the least.

We had just moved in that day to our new place in Lynn, MA. It was supposed to be a happy day and happy new beginnings. We were looking forward to taking lots of walks on the beach since the beach is only 3 blocks away. But alas, I guess that was not meant to be. God had bigger plans for her. Amber seemed fine most of the day, but late in the afternoon, she became very lethargic and not herself. We thought it was just the stress of moving, the heat and that she would bounce back in the morning to her normal perky self. But we awoke around 1:30 am to her trying to stand up and she couldn't and fell over and then she was gasping for breath and died in Richard's arms. We were in absolute shock. I can't explain the loss we are feeling.

This morning, our friend Rebecca and her two girls, Charlotte & Sam, joined us down by the beach in Lynn where they met us with flowers and Charlotte's stuffed sheepdog (that she is letting me borrow). We decided to take a walk on the beach in Amber's honor and toss some flowers in the water in her memory. It was a very touching memorial service and I know Amber would have loved it. Here are some pictures:

She was our baby girl and was so sweet and loving. Everyone who came in contact with her couldn't help but love her and were so amazed when we told them how old she was...they could have sworn she was just a puppy. We have so many happy memories of her from the day we brought her home from the breeder, to our many vacations together, to taking walks on the beach, to just hanging out at home. She was happy as long as she was with you. That's why I'm so glad we were with her when she died.

Amber, I hope that you are at peace and hope you are with our other departed pets -- Mariah, Sam & Nikki. I hope you are with my mom, Joan, and with Richard's mom, Rita. I hope you are not in any pain. I hope heaven is beautiful and that you are able to romp and play with all the puppy dogs at heaven's beach. I pray that you will look down on us and be our guardian angel for all of our days. We need you. We miss you. Most of all we love you and are so blessed for having you in our lives for the last 10 1/2 years. Rest in peace my baby. Rest in peace.

Dover Youth to Youth Fridge Project

Make Way for Ducklings!

We had a great day at the Boston Public Gardens on Saturday with our friends Caroline, Dick & Matthew. We were there to document Matthew being 3 years old. Here's one of the group pictures we took.

We've been friends with Caroline & Dick for sometime now and we had taken Matthew's 1st and 2nd year pictures. So this year, we decided to head to the Boston Public Gardens and take some pictures with the Make Way for Ducklings statues and the Swan Boats. So, we played by the ducklings (statues) and then we played by the real ducks, saw a real swan and then took a ride on the Swan Boats. Then Matthew had some fun with bubbles that Caroline & Dick had brought along (great idea!). Then it was off to a nice, relaxing lunch and headed home. It was a perfect day and we all had a wonderful time! Thanks, guys for such a fun day! Matthew -- you were such a good boy and you are so grown up!!!

Happy Anniversary!

Not only is it Richard's and my anniversary (12 years!), it is also the first anniversary for one of our clients, Corrine & Mike, who got married on our anniversary last year! Happy anniversary Corrine & Mike! May you have many, many happy years ahead of you!

Last night, to celebrate, Richard and I went into Boston. We were lucky enough to have a gift card that I won at my company's holiday party last year to the Four Seasons -- $250. Although we originally thought, "oh maybe we'll stay at the hotel for one night," but then I found out the cheapest room was $425 a night (YIKES!) so we changed our plans and decided to have a nice anniversary dinner there in their French restaurant, Aujourd'hui.

So yesterday, we drove into Boston and had our car valet parked at the hotel (what a treat!). We were there a little early so we walked around the lobby of the hotel and saw a bride and groom (not yet married) posing for some of their formal pictures on the staircase (we just can't get away from wedding photography!).
We then headed over to the Boston Public Gardens and saw a man and his child feeding the ducks (that's a no-no) and we were watching the swan boats and all of the people hanging out on the grass enjoying a beautiful summer evening.
Then, the bride and groom from the Four Seasons appeared with their photographer for some more pictures and then another couple appeared for their pictures (they were already married)....
funny, you can tell if they are already married or not just by either how relaxed they are (already married...she's got her man) or not yet married (do I look okay? I'm so nervous!). It's very cute.

We walked around the public garden some more as we had 30 minutes to kill....then we headed back to the Four Seasons. We sat in the lobby for a little bit and did some people watching then we headed upstairs to the restaurant. Our reservation was at 5:30 pm (we'd rather eat early) and the maitredee greeted us and I gave them our name. He then came back and said "happy anniversary Mr. & Mrs. McGarry, right this way". We practically had the place to ourselves which was great. We were waited on hand and foot by some wonderful waiters (one even gave me a little hook for on the table to hang my purse...how cool is that?!). I perused the wine list and found a wine I had tried when I was in Napa Valley. It was unbelievable! It should be for $15/glass! When we were looking at the menu for dinner, I was having a hard time reading it and went to get my reading glasses in my purse, but they weren't there. So Richard asked our waiter if they had reading glasses, and they (to my surprise) said "yes". So, he brought over this box with a few pairs in it (he said, "looks like people took some of them home!"), but none worked, so I just angled myself so I had more light on my menu.... : ) Tough getting old! LOL

We ordered dinner. I had a sushimi appetiser, a beet and goat cheese salad, and for my entree I had lamb loin, with fava beans and stuffed eggplant. Richard had a mixed green salad and a beef dish.
We both ordered the chocolate souffle for dessert -- and they wrote on the plates, "happy anniversary" and put a candle on each plate! It was so nice! : ) Of course, we had to have the french pressed coffee, which was outstanding! So, to summarize......Food was great. Service was fabulous. Prices were hefty. Portions were on the small side (which was fine with us) -- I had room for dessert! : ) So, if you are looking for a special place to go for a special occasion and you don't mind spending $300 on dinner (thank God for the gift card!), check it out. But it's fun to get dressed up and go out someplace special. By not doing this kind of stuff all the time, it really makes you really appreciate it, not take it for granted. Always nice to see how the other half lives and eats! ; )

So.........back to reality.............I went to the beach earlier today and had my tuna salad with Doritos and my DD iced coffee! : )

Engagement Event at the New England Center in Durham, NH

I was invited to have a display table at the New England Center in Durham, NH on Friday night. They were having a special "tasting" for about 26 brides, their fiances, and family/friends. This was an opportunity to meet some local brides who are still looking for vendors for their wedding.
The other vendors there with me were Focus Photography (also a member of Event Central in Portsmouth, NH), Sweet Meadows Florist, Array of Flowers Florist, DJ John Dione and Deborah from Maine-ly New Hampshire (custom wedding favors).

We had a chance to meet the brides and their fiances and talk about our services. I also had a chance to go around and take some pictures of the beautiful arrangements that both of the florists provided, some of the other booths and of course some of the attendees! Jordyne, the event planner at the New England Center did a beautiful job putting the whole event together. Thanks for inviting us, Jordyne!

Sacramento & Napa Valley California

I was recently in California for a tradeshow with my day job company and had a chance to tour around Sacramento and Napa Valley (I had gone out a day early). While I was in Sacramento on a Saturday, I stumbled upon 2 different wedding parties having their formal pictures taken! It was great to see California weddings in progress and watch the photographers and their assistants do their thing. Also got to walk around the grounds of the Capitol building and one night saw Arnold ("the Governator") in his motorcade....pretty cool.

Napa is only an hour's drive from Sacramento so how could I not go?! Got a chance to tour a few wineries -- Robert Mondavi, Whitehall Lane, Mumm, Rutherford Hill, Sterling -- and drove by hundreds more....it's really amazing up there if you've never been....plus the wine was FABULOUS!!! It's beautiful country with rolling hills and very picturesque views. I think I could live out there, except for the fact that probably the average price of a house in Napa is about a million dollars! Absolutely insane! Who would want to spend that kind of money on a house?! I would much rather live in a simple place and spend the money touring the world and seeing all sorts of sights.....

We were in Newburyport today enjoying the sunshine and walking Miss Amber around (she loves all of her adoring fans!) and another couple with a BIG male sheepdog, Jake, came by (they told us as they were driving by they saw us and pulled into the nearest street so they could stop and say hi and see our sheepdog). They are from Saugus and their sheepdog, Jake, is 3 years old. What a cutie! We had to get a picture for the occasion!

We are off photographing another Bar Mitzvah in Massachusetts. Today, we are celebrating David's Bar Mitzvah! Mazel Tov, David! We had done his brother, Scott's, bar mitzvah a few years ago, so it was great to be back working with this wonderful family again! They belong to a temple in Melrose, MA, and we have done numerous bar mitzvah's there. We're starting to feel like family! Wanted to post one picture from this morning's photoshoot, which is done prior to the service. Frank and I photographed this part together, and tonight, Mike and I will be covering the Bar Mitzvah party. Will post some more pictures from the event tomorrow! Have a great day!

Pikachu Sees the World!

Hi all....I have a fun post here that I need to share with you. In my other job at Webster, I had the opportunity to meet a really nice, fun British guy named Richard Taylor. He works for Marketing by Design in Beverly MA and does all sorts of creative stuff for our company. During one of our meetings in his office, I noticed a fun little picture of this little yellow stuffed animal that was sitting in the foreground of a point of interest (I can't remember what city it was...I'm thinking Paris, but I'm not sure). He told me the story of when he travels he always brings along this little guy, who's name is Pikachu (not sure if any of you remember Pokemon or not) and takes a picture of him in whatever town/city he is in (kind of like that whole knome thing where the knome was kidnapped and his kidnappers would send pictures of him in different cities...).

Anyway, recently, he was making a trip back home to England and then going to Spain, so I asked him to forward me some of the Pikachu pictures when he got back. Well, he emailed me about 40 images, so I decided to put together a little slideshow. It's set to music, so turn up your speakers.

Enjoy the travels of Pikachu. If you want to know where all the locations are, when the slideshow is finished, click on the "gallery" button (looks like a grid) in the lower right hand corner of the slideshow window and it will allow you to browse the images. Well, it's tough to be back in this cold, New England weather after being in southwest Florida where it was 82 degrees the last couple days! Jessica (Goochmedia) and I took a 5 day hiatus from this winter weather and escaped to Sanibel Island. I want to be back on the beach!!!

My nephew Sean was nice enough to let us stay at his place...all we had to do was take care of the dogs (two adorable goldens -- Autumn and Hannah). We got a bunch of laughs from Autumn, especially when she tried to sleep on our heads one night! I swear, she thinks she's a cat! It was hysterical, although we were a little tired after dog wrangling all night! : )

For those of you who don't know about Sanibel Island, it's right off the coast of Ft. Myers. Sanibel and Captiva Islands can be reached from a causeway from Ft. Myers. Once you are on the island, you feel like you have totally escaped. Very little commercialism....all mom and pop stores and local boutiques. Traffic is a little crazy between 7-10 am going on the island and between 3-6 pm going off the island, since there is just one road to get off the island. But it has a few great beaches and yummy restaurants (Doc Ford's for one!)

Sanibel and Captiva were hit in 2004 by Hurricane Charley. They've done a great job restoring the islands and it is as beautiful as ever.

The first few days we were down there it was about 70 degrees and very windy (I know, you feel bad for us, right?!). The first day we checked out Lighthouse Point and did a little shelling. On Sunday, we headed out on the boat that Sean captains, the Lady Chadwick -- Captiva Cruises -- which went out to Cabbage Key and Useppa Islands. We opted for Useppa, it is one of my favorites and I wanted to check it out since I haven't been down there since before Hurricane Charley. It was so beautiful. Here's a short video of Useppa. Will post more pictures, info and video tomorrow......I'm exhaused from vacation! LOL. Good night!

Snowy Days, Tax Time and a Crazy Cat!

So, as we were once again hit with another snowstorm, I decided to hunker down inside my nice warm townhouse and be somewhat productive. Given that April 15th is just around the corner and we have a few things to get together before we meet with our tax guy, I thought I would take advantage of the time I had to finish scanning our receipts from 2007. Yeah, we probably should have done this as they came in, but that never happens. Instead, we have a year's worth of receipts to enter....I'm on September. However, there is a great tool that we got last year called "Neat Receipts" that saves you from having to key in all the receipts; plus you get a scanned image of the receipt. It scans your receipts, reads your receipts (or as they say "scanalizes" your receipts) and enters the data into the program and categorizes it. For the most part, it is pretty accurate and you only have to fix a name or an amount from time to time. It's really easy to just print out the reports so the tax guy can tell us what is deductible and what isn't...very cool.

Of course, I have a very curious kitty, Frederico, and he loves to hang out on my desk when I'm scanning the receipts...he thinks it's a toy...here's a short video clip of what I contend with when I'm trying to work! : ) He's my comic relief! Enjoy!

Today was a beautiful, sunny winter day in the 40's so we decided to venture out to take Amber for a walk and maybe do some sledding at Wagon Hill Farm in Durham, NH. The place was packed, but we were lucky enough to have someone pull out of their parking space shortly after we got there. Below are a few quick video clips of Richard, Amber and me going sledding! Owen has finally arrived from Iowa!

Just had to share some exciting news (and pictures!) with you all. My friend Jane and her family just got a new puppy and his name is Owen! He is 3 months old and they just got him Saturday when he flew in to Boston from Iowa. IS HE ADORABLE OR WHAT???!!! She just sent me these pictures and I just had to share!!!

He is a Cavachon (they have hair not fur) and they purchased him through Cavachon Connection in Iowa . This is their first dog and they just love him to pieces!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Enjoy Owen and keep us updated with new pictures!!!

Madeleine's by Moonlight Bridal Show

Thanks to all of you who came out in the weather to the Madeleine's Daughter / Event Central "Madeleine's by Moonlight Bridal Show" in Portsmouth, NH and thanks for stopping by our booth last night to check out our wedding photography services. We got some wonderful feedback from the guests who took some time to peruse our wedding albums and video slideshows. We hope to hear from you soon! In addition to meeting all the brides, grooms, friends and families, I had a chance to catch up with some of our friends and wedding professionals, Mike and May from Fine Day Photography; Patrick McNamara, Patrick McNamara Photography; Brenda of Brenda's Bloomers; Nancy Fauci, Justice of the Peace; Melissa from Bumblebee Cake Studio and the ladies from Ethan Allen Furniture. And, of course Jay and his crew from Event Central! Another great event, Jay!

At the beginning of the evening, Richard was very busy running around taking pictures of all the vendor's booths and he also did a quick 5 minute video that takes you through the Bridal Show. The bridal show was hosted at Ethan Allen Furniture -- what a beautiful venue! I absolutely LOVED the room we had our set up in. In the picture above, you can only see part of the room, but it included this beautiful black framed bed with stunning black and white linens and pillows (lots of pillows!) and a GORGEOUS rosette decorated comforter, which was to die for! Plus, there was a very comfortable black leather winged back chair that was great to chill in when I had a break in the people traffic. The walls in the area were decorated with great images of clocks...it was very cool.

I have the video ready to share with you and we will be posting the slideshow in the next day or so. So, hope you enjoy it and we really look forward to hearing from LOTS of brides! We want a full schedule for 2008 & 2009 and we want to take gorgeous pictures of your wedding day that you will treasure forever!

David Jay -- An Inspiration

Yesterday, Richard, Jessica (Goochmedia) and I had the privilege of meeting David Jay and spending the day participating in his seminar sponsored by the NHPPA in Concord, NH. Since it was Superbowl Sunday and he was in New England and the Patriots were in the Superbowl, we brought him a Tom Brady shirt. He put it on as soon as we gave it to him and he wore it all day! What a sweetie! Unfortunately, the Patriots weren't able to pull off the 19-0, but they had a heck of a season regardless.

DJ is such a nice person and we really enjoyed the one on one time we got to spend speaking with him prior to the seminar and during lunch. He is such a "real" person and very genuine and caring -- he's very refreshing. For those of you who don't know David Jay (DJ), he is an AMAZING photographer, individual, marketeer, and speaker (he's the one that created the slideshow software, ShowIt, that we use for all of our client's images!). DJ is based in Santa Barbara, California (are you sure you don't want to move to the East Coast, DJ?) and his mission is to help other photographers become successful by sharing his philosophies about the photography business. He is only 28 years old, but he is wise beyond his years. He is truly inspiring and a blessing and we came away with so many great things our brains were hurting!

One of the many quotes that he shared with us is something that we have been trying to practice since getting into the photography business, so it was wonderful to hear this affirmation: "If you always make your business about helping other people - you'll always have plenty of work."

Thank you David Jay and thank you NHPPA for a wonderful, inspiring seminar! David, we can't wait for you to come back! We'll give you a tour of the area next time. We had to get back to our sheepdog, Amber, yesterday so I'm sorry we couldn't have watched the game with you!

Nicole & Rob Engagement Shoot

Last Saturday, Richard and I had the opportunity to photograph Nicole & Rob for their engagement photos. Nicole & Rob have hired us to photograph their wedding in September and the engagement portrait is part of their wedding package. We did an inside shoot at Nicole's parents house because it is January and this is New England and it's COLD OUTSIDE!!! Although, towards the end of the shoot we had worked up a sweat, so we decided to do a few photos outside to cool off and to get a couple of different shots. We had a great time and we are so looking forward to their wedding in September! Thanks again Nicole and Rob for a great engagement photo shoot!

We had a great day yesterday photographing Jordan's Bar Mitzvah. What a fun group! How come I never went to any of these Bar/Bat Mitzvah's when I was growing up???

The day started off with formals at the temple in the morning. Frank was my assistant for the morning. Got some great formals with the family, the rabbi and the torah.

Then for the reception later in the day, Mike from Fine Day Photography assisted me. We had a great time and got tons of pictures. These kids had a blast and got tons of exercise dancing and playing games. The DJ started at 6 pm and had them going until 10 pm! NONSTOP!

Birding Anyone????

My friend Jon from IMAGE ARTS in Portsmouth took me to a couple of places in Greenland and Exeter today to try to see the Screech Owl he has seen before (and he has an AWESOME picture that he took of one that Richard bought me for Christmas). And everyone who has seen the picture of the screech owl in my office has commented "how did he get such a great picture?"....my response was, "a really good lens." Now I got to see the REALLY good lens....WOW....lens envy..... Well, we went to the first spot in Greenland and Jon took out his binoculars and said he could see the little guy inside the hole in the tree. So, we got out our camera equipment....well, needless to say, my lenses paled in comparison to Jon's wildlife lens, so I was looking through his lens. The little guy was sleeping, but we could see him slightly opening his eye. So, after a little bit, we decided to let him sleep and move onto the next spot in Exeter.

When we got to the place, we saw another woman walking around the area with her camera and tripod. We looked where she was heading and sure enough, there was the little screech owl sitting in the hole in the tree! He was sooooo cute!!!! I could see him with just my eyes from my car...as Jon puts it, "it looks like a little stuffed animal in the tree." So I grabbed my camera, headed over to where the woman was and got a couple shots (not great shots, but at least I can prove I saw him!). Jon came over and was setting up his equipment and before he could take a picture, the owl was gone! Guess he didn't like to be the center of attention!....We waited for a bit, but the little guy was not coming back out. Oh well....we will just have to head back there another time. Next birding expedition we're going to try to photograph bald eagles....Jon knows where some hang out.....stay tuned!

A Beautiful Winter Day!

I'm so thankful that it wasn't zero degrees today because I had an outdoor photo shoot for a corporate engineering client, SFC Engineering in Manchester, NH. The shoot was in Marlborough, NH (out near Keene), which is about 85 miles from where we live, roughly a 2-hour ride. The shoot went good and thankfully no wind to speak of. I was shooting pictures of a balloon that will mark where a cell tower is being proposed by Verizon. It was pretty interesting. I was driving around with Jeff who is from SFC and we had to drive up and down a lot of residential streets to see where we could see the balloon from and take pictures. There were lots of dogs at the different areas we were in...I was kidding saying I was the pied piper. Thankfully, they were all friendly. I really haven't spent much time in this part of the state, but it's really beautiful. Actually, I also saw Mt. Monadnock and I found out I was only about 30 miles from the Vermont border....pretty cool.

We also saw some Alpacas!!! They are soooo cute!!
After I was done, on my way home on Rt. 101 in Dublin, I passed the home of Yankee Publishing, which is the home of the Yankee Magazine and the Old Farmer's Almanac.
I also made a stop in at the Dublin General Store in town to get some lunch and snacks...they had something I haven't seen since my grandmother was living -- candied ginger -- hmmmm yummy and good for the upset tummy!
